USEFUL INFORMATION
PACKAGES

Activities practiced in the forest often involve risks associated with weather conditions, equipment failure, inexperience or foolhardiness. Even though the outfitter is there to help organize the activity, you should always be prepared. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, especially when you are venturing into the wild!

First aid
Before you head off on your wilderness adventure, you may want to consider bringing a first aid kit in a compact, rugged and water-tight container that you can easily slip into your coat or backpack. After all, accidents can happen, and it pays to be prepared. How about reading a first aid manual or taking a first aid course? You never know when that information would be needed. Someone familiar with first aid can provide assistance for cuts, sprains, strains, hypothermia, heat stroke, burns or fractures before medical help arrives.

Equipment
The equipment used to practice an outdoor activity is frequently exposed to rough handling during transportation and difficult weather conditions. Consequently, you should examine your equipment carefully before using it—it should always be in top shape. If you are looking to start a new activity, ask your outfitter about the equipment available, different techniques and the risks associated with practicing the activity in question.

Before you leave
Grab the insect repellent, map or brochure indicating the location of your vacation site, food, candles, matches and a few changes of clothes. Once you have packed these essentials, all you have left to do is add a few personal belongings to your bags, then notify a friend or family member about where you will be for your holiday (name and contact information of the outfitter and the duration of your stay). With your itinerary planned, travelling companions gathered, destination selected and equipment reserved, all you have left is to follow your nose! Speaking of which, did you remember to bring the sunscreen?
